Using the WIDA Can Do Descriptors

Great video explaining how to use the Can Do Descriptors with your students. This one is geared towards high school students, but it does a great job providing the general idea.

Infinite Campus

We’ve just spent the past few days uploading all of the PSP accommodations to Infinite Campus.  All of those accommodations will soon be visible to all classroom teachers logging on to IC.  I’ll keep you posted on when that’s available.  In the meantime, keep an eye out for IC generated reports for you guys outline testing and instructional accommodations.

What can your students do?

Can Dos

What is it?

The link above takes you to a website which provides links to something called the WIDA Can Do Descriptors.  The links are to FREE .pdf documents of, basically, a rubric of what students should be able to do at each grade level in the areas of reading, writing, listening, and speaking.  There are different levels of proficiency for each area.  The rubrics are divided into grade level clusters (Pre-K/K, Grades 1-2, etc.).

Why is it important?

Kentucky is a state that uses these WIDA Standards (in addition to the CCSS), so we need to make sure all of our English Language Learners (ELLs) meet these standards.  An quick and easy way to see how our students are progressing is to look at these rubrics and ask; what can my students do?
